MT HUTT

Mt Hutt Ski and Snowboard Field
NAVIGATION
ARTICLES
The greatest variety of skiing in New Zealand is found in the Canterbury region, with four commercial and six club fields, including an area that is arguably the best ski field in the Southern Hemisphere.

Mt Hutt is simply awesome, enjoying the longest and most consistent season in New Zealand - from early June to October. The ski area is a huge open bowl rising to 2,075 metres, receiving some of the lightest, driest powder in Australasia. The skiable area of 365 metres offers superb runs for every level of skill and has stunning views over the vast patchwork quilt of the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch, an easy 90 minutes drive away.

The large base complex has classy facilities with a self-service café, licensed brasserie and bar, creche, equipment hire and full training services. A unique attraction is the only ski/snowboard bungy jump in the world. You ski or ride off the ramp into the sweetest fall-line - straight down through thin air. You are then lowered onto the snow and glide to the bottom loading station feeling supremely ‘stoked’.

Mt Hutt Ski and Snowboard Field
Mt Hutt has snow ratings of 25% beginner, 50% intermediate and 25% advanced, and is served by one quad chair, one triple, three T-Bars, two platters and two fixed-grip tows. There are two landscaped half-pipes and a terrain park with nine features for freestylers. The South Face and Towers areas offer big mountain free riding for the seriously amped.

Transport shuttles leave daily for the ski field from Christchurch and Methven. Methven comes alive each season with visitors from around the globe enjoying great hospitality in the cosy pubs, bars and restaurants. There’s also loads of adrenalin action nearby with skydiving, rafting, jet boating, hot air ballooning and horse riding. Methven is also a heli-skiing base.

Mt Hutt has a well deserved reputation as a fabulous snow-sport venue. If you crave for the finest powder and the best on-field facilities, you will love Mt Hutt.
