How can I get to Methven?
Methven is just 1 hours driving from Christchurch city. If you do not have your own mode of transport you can hire a vehicle. There is also regular bus and shuttle services running from Christchurch city and from the airport. Alternatively you can contact us and we can advise of recommended transportation services.

Is it safe to use my credit card to make a booking online?

When is the best time for trout fishing in the region?
If you want to fly fish for trout there are reputable companies that can assist, however the season opens 1 October and runs through until the end of April. We have been advised that the best time for fishing the Methven area is from the beginning of October until the end of March. If salmon fishing is more your style the best time is meant to be from mid February until the end of March.

What is there to do in Methven during Summer?
Plenty! If you love the outdoors then Methven will become your slice of paradise! From hunting, fishing, jet-boating, hot air ballooning, mountain biking, hiking, tramping, day walks, sky-diving, golf, tennis, clay shooting, scenic heli-flights, farm tours, Lord of the Rings tours, bungy jumping, white water rafting, horse trekking and so much more - there is something to suit the entire family!

Is there transport available to Mt Hutt ski slopes?
There is a regular bus service to and from Mt Hutt.

How far is Methven from Mt Hutt ski field?
It takes approximately 45 minutes (depending on road and weather conditions) to reach the Mt Hutt carpark via motor vehicle.

What other ski slopes are near to Methven?
Methven is a great base for ski and snowboard enthusiasts. Mount Potts backcountry is New Zealand's only helicopter accessed backcountry cat skiing experience. Broken River is located 1 1/2 hours west of Christchurch and has three basins, five tows and no crowds. Has a great hill for getting lots of vertical on excellent terrain. Temple Basin is only 8km's from Arthur’s Pass. Faces northwest and offers over 320 hectares of ski terrain with a vertical rise of 430 metres. If you love extreme adventure ski-ing then you'll love Craigieburn! Craigieburn Valley is ideal for intermediate to advanced off piste enthusiasts. Mt Olympus is 128km from Christchurch and offers a variety of terrains to suit all levels, 4WD vehicles are recommended for the access road. Mt Cheeseman is perfect for family skiers with something for learners, intermediates and extremists!

Is there much to do at night in Methven?
Methven has an excellent night life and a range of quality restaurants, bars and cafes. If you feel like something quieter, the lodge has a great selection of free books, DVD's, CD's and games available for guests.

This will be my first ski trip so what should I wear on the slopes?
For a comfortable, warm and dry day on the ski slopes we recommend you wear waterproof pants and a jacket, a warm hat and waterproof gloves. It is better to wear lots of layers rather than just one big bulky layer, so that if you get hot during the day (all that ski-ing is hard work!) you can just strip a layer off. Don't forget your sunglasses!

What is the Export Gold Methven Big Air event I've heard about?
The Export Gold Methven Big Air & Jim Bean Freestyle MotoX is one of the hottest events in Methven each August! This amazing spectacle is a night event that takes place in the heart of the township Mt Hutt village, Methven with huge air off a 16-metre ramp with awesome tricks by top skiers and snowboarders from around the country. Loads of live music, fireworks and entertainment for everyone!

What is the climate in Methven?
The average max air temperature is 21-deg °C in summer and 10-deg °C during winter. The average min air temperature during summer is 9-deg °C and a brisk 1 deg °C in the Winter season.
